An e-commerce website design that employs a unique categorisation method to sell books, films and music
The Culture Trip aim to inspire travellers by offering background information, discussions, news and travel updates on individual countries. They approached Naked Creativity to design and create a web based e-commerce store that sells travel books, films and music. However, rather than using more traditional categorisation methods, they wanted the products to be categorised geographically by country.
“When developing the website, we were responsible for importing a data set from the whole sale supplier which was in excess of 4 million items. The website was then developed so that these were categorised automatically into continent, country and capital city, with an off the shelf e-commerce platform modified to cope with the extra demands that a large database creates. Finally, we imported the product and jacket images that were supplied to us on a DVD onto a content delivery network to improve the site performance.”

With an e-commerce store that has various categories and sub categories, the information architecture is extremely important to allow customers to easily navigate the website. With content broken down into continents, countries and cities, Naked Creativity designed a consistent layout and distinctive look that made The Culture Trip website user friendly and striking.
As well as the online store, Naked Creativity also developed the ‘Explore’ section of the website that allows The Culture Trip to develop and maintain a blog for each continent. It is here that customers can also contribute an article or photo to the website, creating a database of unique, first hand travel experiences.
