Website and Membership Management Solution for Livery Company

The Tallow Chandlers’ Company is one of the oldest livery companies in London. Its original role was to oversee the tallow candle and goods trade. Today it continues to support its trade roots of heat and light with a wide variety of members, as well as giving to many charitable organisations.

Tallow Chandlers came to Naked Creativity with a brief to improve the existing website, with fresh visual styling and a clearer structure for navigation. The Company also wanted an effective membership system to interact with its members, and manage the administrative side of membership.

With many opportunities for eye-catching photos of the historic Tallow Chandlers’ Company Hall, Naked’s team devised an image-led layout for the new website. The Company commissioned a photoshoot, which captured the history of the hall, dating from 1672. These beautiful images were then complimented by traditional colours and styling, in a fully responsive layout for viewing on all mobile and desktop devices. Navigation was simplified with a new structure, to reduce any duplication of content and make information easily accessible for visitors. The website was built on Naked’s own content management system, Cee.ms, which has been designed for ease of use by non-technical users. After the initial set up of the website, Naked trained Tallow Chandlers’ team how to edit the Cee.ms so they could manage future updates to content and images themselves.

Naked also developed a new members area by implementing its membership system, Memb.rs. Designed to appear visually as a continuation of the main website, members are able to log in to access a fully customised and secure area for the unique needs of members. Tallow Chandlers was previously using Salesforce to manage its members but this was found to be complicated and expensive. By replacing the system with Memb.rs, the Company was able to make significant cost savings at the same time as simplifying the system.

Naked’s technical team managed the process of importing membership data into the new system and was also able to transfer the data from another internal database which was used to manage charities. This meant that Memb.rs was able to manage both members and charity organisations in one place, with useful automated reporting features such as payments each quarter and the amount of grants made to charities.

Naked is delighted to have provided a visually striking website that is easier to use, supports the individual needs of the Tallow Chandlers’ Company, and brings substantial cost savings.
