Online insurance website delivering ecommerce in a regulated industry

Our client is a respected and well-established windscreen insurance provider. Their product offers windscreen and glass insurance cover for cars, vans and light commercial vehicles, and is regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. The product was previously solely sold via brokers and not directly to consumers.

Following a word-of-mouth recommendation, Windscreen Cover commissioned Naked Creativity to develop a completely new direct sales website to effectively communicate and market the product, while including an e-commerce facility so customers could obtain instant quotes and pay for windscreen insurance online.

The client was keen for the website to project an image of both clarity and trust, having already worked in the industry for 16 years. Building confidence for customers to buy policies was a key element, and Naked’s team did this by creating a well branded, clear and easy to navigate website. The team chose a colour palette with timeless appeal, incorporating iconography to communicate the key product benefits at a glance and create further brand assurance.

The website was built around Naked’s – a bespoke content management system that allows the client to edit the layout and content with simplicity. The flexibility of this system meant that the client could refine wording or easily add pages in the future, to create sector-specific elements for example. Naked’s technical team developed a fully customised ecommerce facility using the MEAN stack (MongoDB, Express, Angular and Node.js). Online payment is powered by Stripe, with secure customer authentication, as well as Apple Pay and Google Pay.

Working within the guidelines of the Financial Conduct Authority, it was also essential that all communication was honest, competitive and fair, with easy to understand terms and conditions, and a transparent pricing structure. With this in mind, Naked Creativity re-designed the policy wording booklet and produced an industry-standard IPID (insurance product information document) to ensure the website was fully compliant. The back-end of the website was also set up to dynamically create a PDF policy schedule for customers on-demand after each transaction has completed.

The final challenge for Naked Creativity was completing the whole website in a very tight timeframe of just six weeks – the client was delighted that Naked’s team not only met this challenge but kept the development within budget.

On all fronts I was impressed by what Naked Creativity delivered, the website had the look and feel of an established site, and came in on budget which was a nice surprise.

Throughout the development, I was encouraged by how closely Naked’s team worked with me to achieve the aims, despite my limited knowledge of websites.
