‘Quote and Buy’ Solutions for Car Insurer’s Mobile App

With years of experience working for insurance brokers, Naked Creativity was chosen to help car insurance provider, Rooster, develop its ‘quote and buy’ system for customers.

Rooster is an innovative car insurance broker, which believes in fair car insurance and has established an app to test the driving of potential customers. By doing this, Rooster is able to deliver the best prices to safe drivers; quoting based on their driving, rather than solely relying on demographic data.

Rooster already had a mobile app in place for potential customers to download. The app uses sensors within mobile phones to analyse driving over a short period before quoting. This app was working well, but Rooster needed an API (application programming interface) and a user interface to collect additional customer data such as mileage and extra drivers. This data was then combined with the score produced from the test drive, as part of the quoting process. Naked’s technical team created the new user interface using the Angular framework, which worked seamlessly with the existing app, yet didn’t require any input from the app’s developers to make updates and changes to the quote and buy process.

Naked’s team then went on to build an API to send this customer-entered data to the insurer’s API to get quote information such as pricing, cover and excess levels, while saving the data in a third party quote and policy management platform. Naked’s API also enabled credit or debit card payment to be taken using Stripe, or a direct debit payment plan to be set up using a third party provider, Premium Credit.

Another element of the project was to make the administrative side of the quoting system accessible for Rooster’s customer support staff. Naked created a user-friendly admin screen so quoting details could be easily adjusted by Rooster. As well as this, Naked configured the third party quote and policy management platform to enable policies and quotes to be searched for and documentation retrieved.

The system was set up to generate automated reports for Rooster on a daily basis to track sales, sending these directly to the insurer in the format the insurer prescribed. Another automated report was configured to be sent to the provider of the breakdown cover that was offered to customers as an optional extra during the purchase process.

Naked’s solution was extremely successful for Rooster and during the first two years of operation, the team provided ongoing technical support. Naked also delivered mid-term adjustments capability to the system, enabling customers to change the details of their cover, such as adding a new vehicle or changing an address. This meant further developing the API and updating the quote and buy process to change wording, options and documentation. The team also developed an automated renewals system, so policies coming to the end of their cover had quotes automatically created which Rooster then reviewed and sent on to the customer.

Naked is proud to have contributed to Rooster’s innovative approach and was delighted that after two years of development, the approach was deemed so successful that Rooster invested in its own internal development team and the APIs were migrated over to be managed in-house. Naked’s role has now shifted from sole developer of the quote and buy system, to supporting Rooster’s own development team, managing elements of the system as needed by Rooster.
